Honda has revealed a motorcycle to car communication system its designing to help reduce accidents. Industry research at the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium in Germany has shown that the majority of accidents involving motorcycles are caused by perception failures. Honda’s new system aims to significantly reduce these incidents. Both the causes and the consequences of motorcycle accidents are different to those involving only cars, as the majority of incidents are caused by the simple failure of other motorists to detect the presence of a motorcycle on the road. The Vehicle to Vehicle system generates warnings to riders and drivers of other vehicles through continuous exchange of positioning data from satellite GPS sources and alerting them to vehicles that are potentially on a collision course, allowing time for avoidance manoeuvres.
